HI kramerka,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that only one AirPod at a time plays audio.
You've tried some great troubleshooting steps so far. Do each of them play individually or is there a certain AirPod that does not play audio? Do you have any other devices that can pair with your AirPods? If so, does this happen with all devices?
Try resetting your AirPods as mentioned in Reset your AirPods. Be sure to hold the setup button for the full 15 seconds in step 3.
Take care.

Hello-
I am having the same issue and I have tried everything. I've tried resetting the airpods, I've tried forgetting the device, resetting the network, restarting my phone, etc. If someone on a forum suggested it, I've tried it. Whichever airpod I put in my ear first will connect but the second one will not connect. Sometimes the right will override the left pod if I've put the left in first, (but not always) but both will not play simultaneously. I don't know what to do. These airpods are only a year old.
Thanks,
Colleen
