Phone won’t let me turn off iMessages

section is slightly darkened

it will not let me move the slider to turn it off

You have Screen Time Restrictions set to ON with Account Changes set to Do Not Allow. That is the reason.

Open Settings ➔ Screen Time ➔ Content & Privacy Restrictions ➔ Account Changes: Set this to ALLOW.

Have you tried a reboot?

If you can answer yes to that, then you can go in here and unregister from iMessage.
