Disabling the virtual keyboard when using hardkeyboard

I tried to disable the virtual keyboard under assertive touch option in the iPad Pro 10.5 . But when even I need to type in any section , I still see the virtual keyboard in popping up and I need manually to pull down and type in hard keyboard . Any help to really disable the virtual keyboard would help . Thanks
