Keyboard not working 11.2 iMac

Having just updated to Big Sur 11.2 - upon reboot my USB Apple extended keyboard will not work. I have tried all available USB ports on the back, I have even used the convenience port on the keyboard which still has pass through to charge my iPhone... but I am not able to input any keys, or turn the caps lock on or off... mainly type in my password!!

Suport were unable to find a solution to my problem - and advised to set up a return. Totally stumped them that Bluetooth assistant didn't start up - or no input dialogue box appeared upon restart.

I am however, now typing on the iMac!! Unplugging the power cord and reinserting it whilst holding down the power button seems to have somehow got the USB keyboard to work... Only issue is that the Fan is running at what sounds like boost level!

At the moment I can do what I need to do with the extra noise before trying to work out how to stop the fan from being on boost!

Well now with everything unplugged and the bluetooth (old school) keyboard turned off. Rebooted the iMac...

I do not even have the No keyboard input found box, in order to start trying to pair the keyboard... mouse still works

This is particularly confusing and becoming frustrating now 😩.

Even if I try and manually put the keyboard into pair mode by holding the power button on, it just flashes green with no confo of connection

Well I have unplugged everything. Turned off the Bluetooth mouse, turned off the Bluetooth keyboard. Re powered up the iMac and it just starts up with my password box flashing...

It should come up with a dialog box saying no input detected surely?!? Whether no keyboard or mouse is found, seeing as everything is unplugged or switched off...

putting a call into Apple 🤞🏻

Yeah, nothing... cpu and gpu were all at 97% idle... reset the SMC, fans stopped powering on... but then the USB keyboard stopped working! 😖

luckily had paired the bluetooth keyboard before this...

reset the PRAM using Bluetooth keyboard- which got the USB keyboard backup and running— until a restart, knocked it out again 😤

Currently reinstalling Big Sur - something has glitched this system and it’s not they keyboard or the logic board I’d imagine?!
