Problems installing Big Sur 11.2 update

Hi,

For the past few days I have been trying to install the Big Sur 11.2 update, however, it keeps crashing.

It downloads then goes to the the 15 minutes left to prepare the update finally moves to 10 minutes left to prepare then errors out. The error is: download failed. An error occurred while downloading.

I have tried a whole bunch of different attempts. WiFi, Ethernet to the router, tried installing with a backup user to no avail.

I am using a 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

That's interesting. I don't doubt your findings. Something wacky is definitely going on at the end of the download. Unfortunately, some Macbooks like mine don't have an ethernet port (I guess Apple needed to save a few dollars... on a $1500 laptop). I don't really want to buy an add-on dongle just to update my computer. Though I still prefer Mac to Windows and Linux, Big Sur is really trying my patience. Apple really needs to get a patch out to fix whatever issue is affecting the wifi connection at the last few percentiles. I know my wifi connection isn't that unreliable -- it's got to be either the Macbook or something on their end.

A couple of years ago I found that my MacBook wouldn’t play nicely with other wifi devices on the same network. So I moved my MacBook to a different network on the same router and then there was peace and harmony with the other wifi devices in my home.

Also whilst helping clients overseas I was told by them that engineers from a major internet provider asked customers to turn off any apple devices connected to their home network before they investigate any network issues.

Even some router firmware providers have suggested that if you’re using apple devices wirelessly you may need to modify some router settings.

So maybe there is an issue using wifi on some home networks affecting apple devices.
