Exercise ring

I updated my Apple Watch4 last week (to 7.3). Now my exercise ring on my Activity is only registering a fraction of the time spent exercising. I did a 47 minute HIIT workout this morning with my heart rate averaging between 90 and 140 and my Activity exercise ring showed 10 minutes of exercise. I had logged it in the workout app. This is the third time this has happened. What’s going on?

First try resetting the fitness calibration data

From your iPhone>Watch>Privacy>Reset Fitness Calibration Data>Tap this

You will just get a confirmation box that tells you that your metrics will not be as good if you do this.

Tap confirm and do it. You will get nothing else, no confirmation but it is done.

Then go for a 20 minute outdoor run or walk using the workout app at your normal speed on a flat road/path etc

This will re-calibrate the watch.

Also try force restarting your iPhone by whatever method your version calls for.  As soon as you see the Apple logo force

restart your watch by holding in the crown and side button for 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo then release.  Log into your iPhone and wait for your watch to boot, then log into it.

Failing all the above, I'd try unpairing the watch from your iPhone then pairing it back setting it up as new.
