clock spinning / loading stuck even after re pairing

I charged my watch last night and after I took it off the charger and put it back on it will no longer show the watch face. It shows a mini clock icon with dots spinning around it. The buttons both work and it will run other apps but I can’t get the watch face to show. I restarted the watch a couple times. It shows the watch face immediately after the restart but once the screen shuts off and I try to turn it back on I get the icon with the spinning dots. I also tried unpairing, pairing and restoring but still have the same problems. Has anyone seen this happen before? I’m hoping to avoid a trip to the Apple store but it’s not looking good.

Try this;

Press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for about 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.Wait a few seconds, then hold down just the side button for about 20 seconds or until the “erase all settings” prompt shows up on the screen, then click it, then click the green check button.
