Make Excel default
I have a MacBook Pro 2020 M1. I need to make Excel the default for opening spreadsheets. All info I find online is pre-M1 and is not working. Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't know what you saw online.
The instructions are the same as they have always been. It makes no difference being in an M1 mac.
Select one excel file in the Finder, press Command-I.
In "Open With" select Excel, then click "Change All".
