PROBLEM SOLVED 99 %!
I can now open and edit CR3 photos on my Mac!
Canon R5 and R6 cameras also appeared to the list of supported cameras in my Mac!
What did I do? I opened Photos app on my Mac and let in run idle for a couple of hours. That's all I did. No re-installations or similar. There were a total of 6 Photos or iCloud related processes running, obviously they did something useful.
CR3 still does not open in iPad and iPhone, but I can live with that. And I believe that also they will soon become CR3 capable all by themselves.
GREAT!

I have Photos 6.0 and BigSur 11.2 on my MacBook Air, but the R6 support is nonexistent.

Kummallista, erm, weird. Maybe reinstalling Big Sur might help?
Kummallista, indeed.
I’ve never reinstalled before.
I think it would say ”you already have the latest version” and deny reinstallation.
Another 1+ hours...
Hmm...
I’m somewhat hesitant.
I believe DPReview has raw samples of all the cameras they test.
I tried to attach here a CR3 photo but the limit to attachement here is 5 GB and the CR3 photo is 14 GB.
MB, not GB

The same with me.
I also get this window OK. But can you open, view and edit the CR3 photo? I can’t.
My system report does not list the R5 or R6, either.
I will not try to re-install.
Well, we should all send feedback to Apple, I just did.
I did also.
I had already made a complete new installation of macOS 11, when I upgraded to Big Sur. So I will wait a bit, before I reinstall.
