Look for a dock/adapter with DisplayLink. Be prepared for possible lagging and for the device to be borked by macOS updates until an updated driver comes along (can be weeks).

M1 Macs natively support only one external display.

Are there any other options besides purchasing a $200 docking station to connect two monitors to an M1 laptop?

This is a big drawback that Apple should publicize to purchasers. Many people who work from home require more than one monitor.
