TurboTax 2020 won't open on Mac Big Sur 11.2

Running Big Sur 11.2 on my iMac. TurboTax 2020 was running OK for several days but eventually got the message "whoops seems we hit a snag". When this initially happened I was able to continue the program, however the next day, after loading the Big Sur update 11.2, TurboTax 2020 would not load at all.

I downloaded and reinstalled my TurboTax purchased software. Same thing.

HELP!!!!!

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 11.0

For all of us having problems with TurboTax not running after Big Sur 11.2 update. I found a reply someplace (?) that suggested a fix or workaround - IT WORKED

I created a new user with Administrative authority. I logged of my current user and logged on to my newly created user. I copied my tax file over, opened it with turbotax and it worked just fine!!!

Hope this helps some other people

Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

I had the problem with Catalina 10.15.7.

It seems to me the Tubotax updater never finished when I started for the first time today after installing the software a couple months ago.

I already had another admin account on my computer so I switched that account and tried to start Turbotax.

It said it need to update and I allowed it to finish the download and installed the update.

I then started up Turbotax and got to the blank return page before quitting it.

I then switched back to my main admin account and Turbotax would then start and transfer my information from my 2019 return.

It seems to me Intuit found a problem with Turbotax running on Big Sur or Catalina or both and the updater needs to run to fix the problem.

Try completely removing Turbotax 2020 with AppCleaner or the like and then reinstall and make sure the update runs to completion. You may have to reinstall from another admin account as others have already said here.

Happy Day!

Turbotax will still not launch even with starting up in safe mode. Thank you for replying, though! I'm pretty sure it's a bug in Turbotax software application.

I don't see how it could be a universals bug because it's running very nicely on my 2017 27" iMac running Big Sur 11,2.

Download and run Etrecheck. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support  to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply.

IMPORTANT:

Before running Etrecheck assign Full Disk Access to Etrecheck in the Etrecheck's Privacy preference pane so that it can get additional information from the Console and log files for the report:

Also click and read the About info to further permit full disk access.

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine what might be causing the problem.

I had return done on Catalina, got errors about inherited ira I don’t even have so return rejected twice

then my computer went into reboot loop and Apple support helped me but it updated to Big Sur in process

I used work around of creating new user on iMac and that worked have filed and it’s finally accepted but now every time I open return snd try to save pdf or print TT closes with no error code

im opening irs acct to get transcript of the return for my records

very frustrating year on TT have used it for many years but may not any more

This solution worked for me but would like to get this fixed on my main account.

There is a log every time the program crashes. This info is always there.
