Workout App pause function does not work.

I have an Apple Watch series 6. I use the workout app for both pool swimming and walking workouts. You are supposed to be able to pause the workout by pressing both side buttons simultaneously. This function does not work on my watch. It will occasionally work during a walking workout. It has never worked for a swimming workout. Does anyone know how to fix this?

We'd like to help get the pause feature working right during a workout with your watch.

As this is unexpected behavior, we recommend confirming the following:

This link shows How to restart your Apple Watch, and this links shows how to Restart your iPhone.
We'd also recommend making sure your paired iPhone is up to date. If you have a compatible model, the latest version is 14.4. You can verify which version number is installed within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
As you have an Apple Watch series 6, the latest version is watchOS 7.3. You can verify which version number is installed within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to Update your Apple Watch.
