Missing Text Notifications

iPhone 12 Pro Max

ios 14.4

Ever since receiving this phone last year, certain text messages come in silently, despite every possible setting being turned on. This has persisted through several updates. Any help?

Hi Tightcoyote,

We see you have an issue where some of your text notifications are silent when they come in. We can understand the need to have them be audible, and we'd like to assist.

As you noted checking on all notification settings, it sounds like one or more text conversations may be muted.

To check on that, launch the Messages app, and see if any conversations/names have a moon icon next to them. If so, swipe left on the conversation, and select 'Unmute'.

Also, double-check to see if Do Not Disturb may be on, or scheduled to be on. You can look into that in Settings > Do Not Disturb.

Take care!

Tightcoyote,

Thanks for clarifying the issue for us. The issue you're noting should have been addressed with the iOS 14.3 update in particular. Some notes on the update can be found here: About iOS 14 Updates

If you're seeing that iOS 14.4 is the one installed at Settings > General > About > Version, we may need to get you in touch with Apple Support directly for further investigation. There are a few other things to check on first, however. Is this happening exclusively to SMS messages (green bubbles), iMessages (blue bubbles), or a mix of both types? Any other apps affected as well, or just the Messages app?

Also, double-check on the date and time of the device at Settings > General > Date & Time. If either is incorrect, that can cause some issues with notifications. If you're using a VPN, try also disabling or uninstalling that temporarily, just to see if that may be a cause.

Cheers.

Hello Tightcoyote,

Thanks for clarifying those additional details for us. As it's still persisting intermittently, and the related settings appear to be OK, we'd recommend reaching out directly to Apple Support. They'll be in the best position to investigate further, and provide more guidance.
