Unable to save or forward audio messages in iMessage

“In Messages the “Save” action on audio messages does absolutely nothing. Doesn’t end up in Voice Memos (like pre-iOS 12) and also doesn’t end up in the attachments under info (like janky iOS 12). Also can’t forward to anyone, shows up blank (no bubble) in Messages. Even the person I sent it to said it disappeared before they could listen.

The file is currently unsaveable, they haven’t heard it, I can still listen to it only in Messages but can’t save or forward it again. I’ve scoured the internet for over a year on this issue, it’s recurring constantly (I stopped using audio messages instantly because of it, dunno why I felt adventurous today), and I’m a researcher and a programmer so believe me when I say I’m certain this is a horrendous bug that no one at Apple has cared to fix for a truly long time.

Even the hilariously roundabout fix described in this popular article (top google result on the issue) doesn’t work anymore: Trying to forward to an email or phone sends a blank message with no bubble.
