Slow macbook air m1

hey i just purchased a new m1 macbook air and while editing 4k files in imovie it was not smooth when dragging the videos in the timeline i can feel the lag but when i exported it in pro res (11gb) file it exported in almost 1 min why is this happening ? i am also getting beacballs in imovie someone please suggest me something.

hey i again tried editing and now i think there was something wrong with the file as when i made an export with other file wiht size of 37 gb it exported in 4min 40 sec and the scrubbing and preview was all smooth it was a 4k H.264(HEVC) footage and yea i only got beachballs for a second or so while opening and closing imovie do you think this just normal?

Sorry for the delay in answering but I have been walking in the snow in the hills.


High is probably the best setting especially if you have a lot of fast motion. Medium and Low will often give results just as good and produce much smaller file sizes.


There is no hard and fast rule, it's a matter of trial and error to see what suits you.


Sometimes just one corrupt video clip can bring a computer to its knees. That could be what caused your problem.


If all is back to normal you need not do an SMC reset.
