How do I get audio on my ipad when connecting to LG monitor via HDMI cable with lighting adapter?

Connecting iPad to Monitor I am trying to use my 27" monitor with my iPad. When I hook it up using the Apple lightning HDMI AV adapter the visual works fine but audio dies immediately. How do you get sound so I can watch on the larger screen. Monitor is an HP 27" E273, new.

Does your monitor have a built-in speakers?

An iPad connected via HDMI will always direct audio to the connected device - disabling the iPad’s internal audio.
