Stuck in update loop (Macbook Air)

So my laptop is stuck in an update loop and I restarted in Recovery Mode. I am currently in the macOS Utilities and I clicked the Reinstall macOS but it says that there is not enough room. So then I clicked on Disk Utility and i have “Macintosh HD”, “Macintosh HD - Data” and “Update”. Do I need to delete one in order to reinstall the Mojave update?

This sounds like you are downgrading your mac from macOS Big Sur.

The only way to do this is to erase your mac entirely and reinstall an earlier OS.

You can only do this by booting to your Recovery HD as you have done,

at the moment you are seeing Macintosh HD, Macintosh - Data and Update.

These are called Volumes and you need to erase the Disk.

click on View in the menubar and click on Show All Devices.

Disk Utility will now show all Disks, Volumes and Containers,

highlight the Disk (probably called Apple SSD…) then click Erase.

This will reformat your Disk and all information on the Disk,

the Containers and Volumes will be erased and unrecoverable.

so you should have backed up your mac before doing this.

After clicking on Erase from the dialogue that pops up

give the Disk a name.

Format: APFS

Scheme: GUID Partition Map

Click Erase.

When Done quit Disk Utility.

Click on Install OS press Continue

the installation process should start follow the prompts.

Your mac should be connected to the internet via cable not WiFi for this.
