Apple Mail with POP email protocol (Big Sur 11.2 )

Just migrated to a new MacBook Air with latest Big Sur OS11.1, so on a major learning curve for OS compatibility right now ...

Currently trying to set up POP protocol with various Google email accounts, but running into setup error.

I found a promising workaround here - and the app password workaround is still getting me to the POP option, but then I get "Unable to verify account name or password"

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

Did you set up your gmsil account as POP? Pop is an older protocol so most email servers and clients today default to IMAP protocol. Log into your gmail account using a web browser and check if it is configured as POP.
