Old iPhone 6s upgraded to iPhone SE- none of my music transferred. My MacBookPro is so old it can no longer be updated and will not speak to my new iPhone. How do I get my music onto my new phone?

I have DECADES of purchased music (very little downloaded, most was uploaded from CDs) that did not transfer to my new phone. My MacBookPro is running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and my iTunes on the Mac is 12.8.1.3. My iPhone SE is on software version 14.4

I really want my music on my new phone. The MacBookPro and iPhone SE won't talk to each other. I do have an iCloud account. Can my music be backed up to the cloud? If so how do I get that downloaded to my phone?

I feel like Apple (and probably all tech companies) purposely makes this difficult.

For iOS 14 you need iTunes 12.8.2.3 or better running on OS X 10.11.6 or better. See How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support if required.

Assuming a suitable version of iTunes is in place then in Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

If these steps haven't worked you can also try reinstalling iTunes 12.8.2.3 while your device is connected and unlocked.

If upgrading to El Capitan isn't feasible you could potentially use a subscription to iTunes Match to allow your device access to the music collection on your computer.
