M1 Mac Mini bluetooth issues fix?

I updated my new M1 Mac Mini to 11.2.1 and the issues with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse persist. It's not dropping connections anymore but about every 3rd day or so when I wake the computer the keyboard will at first not respond, then the text races to catch up, adds characters I didn't type, and generally misbehaves. The mouse appears to act normally but it's hard to tell since I'm at the login screen.

At any rate, is there any special I need to do to fix this? It's an Apple wireless keyboard and a logitech mouse. Both worked fine on my 2015 MacBook Pro...

I have a Mac Mini M1 16GB/256GB. Just purchased a Hagibis Hub which arrived today.

Some observations:

  • To begin I had Wifi switched off - working with Ethernet.
  • As soon as I began using the hub I started to experience Bluetooth issues with my magic mouse.
  • Turned system off and swapped USB-C to USB-C cable that came with the hub from left port to right port on Mac.
  • No more bluetooth issues.
  • Until I then switch Wifi on again...bluetooth issues returned.
  • Turn wifi off again...bluetooth issues gone again.

I haven’t had these problems personally YET. But I have been hearing a lot about this. I did however notice that my Wi-Fi would randomly toggle off and it have to toggle it back on. I had a hub then returned it and got a hyper drive for a MacBook Pro. It came with a USB-C cord to run it to my Mac Mini. This actually worked wonders and I’m not running into any of the WiFi toggling issues either.

I mainly needed a hub for an SD card so I can transfer video for edit, I’d recommend this as an alternative.

I am having a very similar problem, but have been able to eliminate almost every potential issue discussed here and elsewhere and the problem still persists. My issue is that when I connect true wireless headphones, the audio will be patchy, introduce static, pan slightly left and right randomly, and be garbled for any Zoom or other video calls. Using one-piece wireless headphones is better - the issue doesn't happen nearly as often, but it has happened a couple times. Streaming audio from Spotify also seems to be mostly fine, with it happening a couple times. I have tried multiple brands of true wireless and it happens with all of them; the headphones work fine on other devices, including my iPhone.

I only have one bluetooth device connected directly to the M1 Mac mini - my headphones. I also have one Bluetooth mouse, but it connects through a USB dongle. My keyboard is wired. I do not use any USB hubs, and I have my WiFi turned off, using only ethernet. I am updated through the current Big Sur version and have attempted to reset the bluetooth module.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Otherwise a fix by Apple seems necessary.

I have had a Mac M1 Mini for two weeks. Until today, I had no bluetooth issues.

I have a Magic Keyboard (about two months old) and an older (battery) Magic Trackpad. Today, the Keyboard started typing on its own. I couldn't log in after sleep. The Trackpad worked fine. I rebooted and it worked again.

So the next time it went to sleep, it came out and wasn't working. I have a second Magic Keyboard as I type in two languages and the mapping is a pain with accents. So I got that one out and it wouldn't work right either. Then I had the Magic idea that the Keyboard might work better without the Magic so I plugged it into the Lightning cable. And just like (not) Magic, it works. And the other one works too.

So I log in and disconnect the Lightning and the Magic disappears when I try to type. Both Keyboards stutter and both decide to repeat, especially on the space bar. However, the Trackpad still has Magic powers and it works fine. I try each Keyboard in the unMagic mode, i.e., with the Lighning cable, and both work fine.

So I reboot and now the Magic is back, but I assume it will go away at some point. I am going to disable Sleep and see if that helps, but that seems like a really stupid solution. Why have Sleep if you can't Magically Wake Up?

Through all of this, I removed my four external drives, as some people have suggested that they interfere with the Magic. This had no effect on anything.

So I will find out if not sleeping restores the Magic but at this point, I'm not happy.

This is exactly my problem except that I don't have a magic track pad, just a Logi bluetooth mouse.

I have bad news for you: This isn't a solution. I've disabled sleep myself and it still does it, though a little less frequently.

Apple needs to fix this.

Hello.

I have a hub that has 9 ports and it's an Anker Hub. I'm going to buy the Mac Mini 2020. Do you think my hub will be okay?

I am running Catalina on my Mid-2014 MacBook Pro (2.5GHz, i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage). I bought it new, 5 years ago. I've had two swollen battery issues with it and want to get something newer. I use a clamshell setup and never take the laptop anywhere, so it's away hooked up to an outlet. I don't need the portability, so I have decided on the Mini 2020.

I design websites and print graphics (no video graphics work). Use Adobe CC and MS Office for Mac (primarily for Outlook). I have two 6TB external drives (one for Time Machine and one for all my design files).

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Still have huge bluetooth mishaps, i didn't connect it with wifi, but maybre there's something to it.

i've got a bluetooth magic mouse, a non apple bt keyboard, and the cheapest BT earpods i could find.

Mouse gets laggy when my earpods are handshaking the mac, i believe, and these earpods always need a couple of connect/disconnect to work as sound device.

I'm so glad we have M1 cpus, but hey that's what being early adopter gets you, a little bit of non threatening disappoinement.

My problem is far worse since the last update. It's as if the improvements from 10.2 were completely erased. Now my true wireless headphones will not be in sync hardly at all, and I have a brand new issue, which is that one-touch commands on the headphones (such as adjusting the volume or adjusting noise cancelling) only work on the earbud that command is done to - it doesn't carry over to the other earbud. So I end up with music and sound louder in one ear than the other and not synced up. The headphones are now literally unusable with the Mac Mini, because the small sound imbalances give me a headache if I listen for more than a couple minutes.

I had a 2012 Mac mini and did not have any Bluetooth issues until I updated to Catalina.

i now have the M1 and it has Bluetooth issues too on big sur. Letters are repeating, letters aren’t working, etc plus the keyboard is eating batteries like crazy. The update did not fix anything. I’ve reset the Bluetooth many times to no avail.

I’ve called Apple and they were of no help. What was I expecting?!

I've decided to go with a wired keyboard. I’m done with Apple peripherals.

I found a way to get over the bug, while apple don`t fix it. At least, it worked for me:

The bug happens between the bluetooth and wi-fi. So, you have some options: Take off the password of your wifi, or, use a ethernet cable. If the wifi has a password, it will make things disconnect from your mac mini. The reason? Nobody but apple knows hahah.

Try it, let me know if you found any alternatives.

I have issues with Magic keyboard weekly (not responding, lagging with delayed or multiple entries for a letter) on M1 mini since I purchased Magic keyboard and mouse. Magic Mouse 2, works fine without an issue.

When Keyboard acts up.. I do connect via lighting cable to get it working and then have to remove/add keyboard or reset BT module. It does get very annoying.

I will try disable sleep option. As for Wifi, I have it on but not connected via wifi. Using ethernet.

Do I need to take password off? will that remove password from other devices like iPhone, watch etc?
