itunes not visible on pc

Suddenly, I cannot see or find itunes on my win 10 pc.

I have tried re-installing but cannot access the ms store, so used apple direct download. It loads as far as telling me that it cannot upgrade the existing version - which implies that itunes is still here.

itunes is not visible on the programmes list, so I cannot uninstall it to re-install.

A manual search is fruitless because I don't know where to find the programme and can't say that I even know what I am looking for. If the add/remove prog function can't find it, what chance have I?

Thanks.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the arcane details of Microsoft Store installations, but I suspect it won't open because it isn't correctly installed. I think you have some cruft from an old iTunes install that won't let you install either version, but I'm not sure how you get around that. You could try the section Install missing components and see if the individual components of iTunes will install one at a time.

Dear tt2,

"Arcane" sums it up ☺

I can see the folder contents but cannot delete them. A basic action.

I understand that hiding files stops the accidental tampering and corruption of a whole programme, but it also makes life interesting (and not in a good way) when the programme randomly misbehaves.

I'll go and read that section.

best wishes

Dear tt2,

By searching in the C-drive of my previous, now spare, computer, I find that it has itunes and that it works.

From this I was able to find the itunes.exe application and file path.

However,, it is a very hidden folder; I cannot go up a level to see it and copy it.

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\AppleInc.iTunes_12110.26.53016.0_x64__nzyj5cx40ttqa

But I made an itunes.exe shortcut which I transferred to the new computer.

This enabled me to locate the itunes folder in my new computer as follows - which of course refuses to open.

Have you any suggestions to bypass the refusal to open?

Thanks in advance.
