Good Physical Shape for Trade-in

What does Apple mean when they ask about good physical shape? They go into detail by asking "Is the screen free of cracks, pixel loss, and lines? Is the body free of major scratches and dents? And are all the keys where they should be?" I'm curious what is considered "major". Does anyone have any insight? I am considering trading in my MacBook Pro. The pictures show what I'm questioning in regards to physical shape. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'd also like to add that in some locations, laptop trade ins are handled by third party "partner companies". Unless you disclose all of the scratches, etc, during the initial process, they will most likely give you a very low final offer (or maybe a 0 value) because of the damages. In order for them to resell it, they would have to replace the entire upper case including the screen and that would be an expensive repair.

So, you'd be better off selling it yourself - but you need to disclose the damages for that as well.

Yes, it is the bezel surrounding the screen that is cracked. Normally I would just go to the Apple store and ask them, but ours has never re-opened since closing their doors due to COVID. I'll have to see if I can find a way to contact Apple about it.
Thanks.

You send it in, and at that time they will offer you their final price accordingly— does not mean you have to accept the offer.

From here at a distance, it looks a bit beat up.

You would probably get more if you sold it yourself locally.

The crack in the separate glass bezel below the screen is not a screen defect per se, because it does not affect what is displayed on the screen in any way.

But everyone hates surprises. You should contact the store for clarification of whether a cracked lower bezel glass is counted as a defect. Otherwise you risk them declaring your computer in bad shape.
