relocate apple loops to external drive (Logic 10.6 on Big Sur)

Is it possible to relocate apple loops to an external drive? I'm using current versions (Logic 10.6.1 on Big Sur 11.2.1) on a 2013 Mac. I have already relocated the Sound Library to an external hard drive so I'm good there.

I've read many posts on how to do this with earlier versions using symbolic links and alias folders but Logic always starts to re-download sound content when reopened, as if it doesn't recognize these links.

I know I can drag the copied loop files into the Loops folder as untagged loops but they lose their "Apple Loops functionality", right?.

Are there any posts on how to do this with current versions of Logic on Big Sur.

Thanks for your help.
