Hi,

There are three ways to set the duration of a still image in iMovie:

  1. In the timeline, put your cursor on the right hand edge of the image and, while pressing down, drag the edge left or right to reduce or extend the duration to the desired length.

2.In the timeline, select one image or a range of images, and then click on the icon that is a little circle with an "i" in it, located in the tool bar at the top of your screen. A duration box will appear just below and to the right of the icon. Type in your desired duration. Then press the Return key on your keyboard. The duration of all selected images will be changed to the duration that you typed into the duration box. (To select a range of images, select the first image in the range and then select the last image in the range while holding down the shift key.)

3.From the iMovie menu bar, click on iMovie/Preferences. In the Preference box that appears, enter a default duration in the Photo Duration box. Then close iMovie and reopen. Create a new project. All photos imported into the new project, and all projects created thereafter, will have the default duration that you set in the preferences box. NOTE: Changing the default duration in the Preferences box will not apply the set duration for presently existing projects, but only will apply the duration for projects created after you made the preferences change.
