ipad pro battery replacement not available?
The battery on my first gen iPad pro 12.9" is on its way out. Speaking to the people at my local Apple store I've learned that the battery on this model is not replacable, nor would they do any other kind of service on it, if required.
Third party repairers are also loathe to touch it, as apparently the screen is often broken while fixing it. I've been quoted AU$900 to replace it, which is obviously not do-able - that's more than two standard ipads, or more than a new iPad Air and 2nd gen pencil!
Further discussion with the Apple store has taught me that this model is also not eligible for trade in. So, in other words, I have a very expensive device that still works perfectly that I now have no choice but to throw away.
Yes, I've had plenty of good use out of it since buying it years ago, but getting rid of it when it is still in perfect condition, other than the battery seems wrong.
I'm exploring my options as the device is semi-critical to my work - are the newer ones upgradeable, or will I be saddled with the same problem four or five years down the line?
