Facetime does not work with audio interface

I have an iMac 27 from 2020 set up as follows:

  • iMac 27 i9 32gb/2TB SSD running OS 11.2.1
  • LG 27'' Class UltraFine™ 5K IPS LED Monitor
  • Universal Audio Arrow interface

Any video-conference call I make using Zoom® or Skype® work fine. The second I use FaceTime, the mic stops working and I need to switch over the the internal mic on my LG monitor.

I have reached out to Universal Audio and they tested this setup under Mojave and it worked fine. I also know that it worked fine under Catalina as well. Looks like Big Sur continues to be a problem. Does anyone have thoughts on this?

Fascinating development I thought I would share. Actually it was the Universal Audio moderator who triggered this idea. I went to my FaceTime setting and selected iMac mic for input and iMac speakers for output and it all worked. I think when one routes any signal out to the UA, it kinda hijacks the whole thing (minus the video).
