How to connect Mac Mini (M1) via HDMI to an Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display (TB 2)

I have a new Mac Mini (M1). I'm driving an original Apple Monitor from the USB-C port, using a dongle (USB-C to Display Port female). It works. I need to use the Mac Mini HDMI to drive a first gen 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. So I need a HDMI (male) to Thunderbolt 2 (female) cable/adapter. it seems so easy, yet two engagements with Apple support have resulted in failure. Help!

The ONLY way you can connect a Thunderbolt Display to any

Mac is via Thunderbolt ONLY. There are ZERO methods to

connect it by any other means. This was one of the biggest

complaints about the Thunderbolt Display when it first came out.


You need this adapter to use it with your Mini:
