I have a new Mac Mini (M1). I'm driving an original Apple Monitor from the USB-C port, using a dongle (USB-C to Display Port female). It works. I need to use the Mac Mini HDMI to drive a first gen 27" Apple Thunderbolt Display. So I need a HDMI (male) to Thunderbolt 2 (female) cable/adapter. it seems so easy, yet two engagements with Apple support have resulted in failure. Help!

connect it by any other means. This was one of the biggest
complaints about the Thunderbolt Display when it first came out.

FWIW, I am using that adapter with my M1 MacBook Air connecting
to my venerable Thunderbolt Display and works just fine including
all the stuff on the Thunderbolt Display (ethernet, USB ports, Firewire Port,
camera, mic, and speakers).
