Selecting multiple files in a finder window Magic Trackpad 2

So... All I want to do is select multiple files in a window by clicking with my thumb and dragging over multiple files in list view. I've never had a problem with the trackpad on my laptop but feel like I need to try 4-5 times using MT2 as it grabs the first file rather than allow me to drag.

Is there a trick that I'm missing? Is it a left handed thing (lefty here). Perhaps there's a setting that I'm missing? I'm also using Better Touch Tool but this "drag problem" happens with it off as well.

I hope this is clear enough. It's a small thing but is VERY frustrating.
