NJipaderic,
Our apologies! You should have a Thunderbolt port that you can use. Per the Identify the ports on your Mac page from Apple, you can use the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable to connect directly from the Thunderbolt port on your MacBook Air to the HDMI port on your monitor.
If you go to the Apple website and choose Mac > Accessories > Power & Cables and search by Product Type/Cables and Compatibility/MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015 - 2017) you can see the Mini Display Port to HDMI Cables that they sell for an idea about which cable to get.

Hopefully this helps!
Hello, NJipaderic.
Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. We can help you decide the best adapters for connecting your MacBook Air and DELL monitor. Apple also has some great resources you may want to reference:

We looked at the technical specifications for your monitor, and it looks like it supports HDMI, USC-C, USB 3 and DisplayPort interfaces. The USB-C ports on your MacBook Air should work well with your monitor, so the adapter choice is really up to you.
Either of these will work:
Warmest Regards.
Hi Less,
My 2017 model doesn’t have a USB-C port.
