Hello everybody! It seems the extraction of a still image from a video is no longer possible in Big Sur! Did anybody already figure out how to do this now? The settings icon in the control panel is gone!

The only Apple app that can do it is iMovie and Final Cut Pro. iMovie is free, FCP is expensive.
Tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added in Photos via Feedback - Photos - Apple but don't hold your breath.
VLC can extract frames, among other tools.

You can do it with GraphicConverter. Open/edit the movie with GC from within the library and play the video. Stop at the frame you want and use the File ➙ Save As menu option. Select jpeg.
You'll finally be presented with this option window where you should select the first option:
Be sure to select Desktop as the destination for the saved image file.

Hi, thank you very much for your quick response. I was however not looking for a third party software. I'm asking the question because the software update seems to have removed a perfectly fine function that already existed in the system and I was wondering whether or not they've just "hidden" it somewhere else...
Well, thanks for all the Feedback. Then I can only recommend to everybody who needs this function NOT to upgrade to Big Sur.
On all Versions of Photos you can easily do it directly within the App and very easily! (Screenshot is in German, but the place is the same in every language - Photos under Catalina (10.15.7)
