iMac bought in 2019 is too slow

The unit was bought in 2019. Soon after it has begun to slow in responding e.g. opening app, clicking and closing app. Can anyone help me to resolve the issue?

WK the primary problem is you bought a base model 21.5" iMac which in 2019 only had 8GB of RAM and a glacially slow 5400 RPM HD. The 5400 RPM HD is the main bottleneck. The ONLY thing you can do is to buy an external SSD something like: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TB3ENVP10/ and then clone your internal drive using either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner . Then boot from the new SSD and select it as your startup drive in System Preferences.

This is the ONLY thing that will speed up your current machine.
