My mail is suddenly not syncing between my iPhone XR and my MacBook Air. If I read and/or delete emails from my laptop, they remain as unread and undeleted on my iPhone. Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Only IMAP will sync across devices.
Sign into iCloud on both of them.

I'm not sure. How can I tell? I think they must be because my mail has always synced. I just started having the problem in the last week.
Just figured out that they are IMAP accounts.
Then if you delete on one device the other devices will also delete it.
Yes, that is the way it has been up until last week when it suddenly stopped syncing.
