Can anyone tell me why the Exercise option “outdoor walk” does not count towards your exercise goal? Today’s example: I did a 1.5 hr walk and only got 1 min. towards my goal.

Based on what I have read in the replies to Workouts Not Recorded by Exercise Ring - Apple Community, unless you use "Other" or "Yoga" you have to accomplish at least one of the following for a "minute of exercise" to be counted as an "exercise minute":
I have also heard that according to Apple Support, for the activity ring to register your workout (for outdoor walk or exercise ring) you need to maintain a speed of approximately 3.3 mph or faster and increase your heart rate to approximately 75% of your High Heart Rate (from the iPhone Watch > Heart app). This definition of a "brisk walk" is to encourage you to put more effort into the walk, If you slow down or pause, the watch will stop giving you exercise credit, It will still measure your steps and calories burnt but will not give you any credit towards the exercise ring or workout app. A brisk walk speed is different for everybody as the watch takes into account your age, sex, weight, and heart rate which is why it is important to calibrate the watch and have the correct details set up in the Health app,

I keep seeing hearsay about how exercise is recorded. With all due respect to Apple, they either need to publish their criteria for recording exercise or look into technical issues with the watch. Otherwise, the advice above is guesswork.
Tazzy - having same issue but what’s more is that the watch used to record outdoor walking fine, and now doesn’t record hardly any when I walk. For me, it’s been since the recent update they pushed out and bugged me to run with daily notices.
And that Calibration article from 2019 that javaliga posted is old and outdated. It perpetuates the idea that all of us are using the watch wrong. I think Apple needs to say / do more about the exercise tracking issue directly
Just because the article is from 2019, what makes you think it is outdated?
As per what Christine said, the watch used to record walking fine. It’s just been of late that it’s been REALLY off!
I wonder if Apple sees discussions and anyone else has the same issue.
