Epson printer and my MacBook Air

When I try to print it says, "filter failed.

What does that mean and how do I fix it so my printer will print?

Hi,

To begin with, you may want to try a printing system reset.

Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support

Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support

Check whether the operating system suggests a driver.

You may need to download a new printer driver from Epson.

If necessary, post back with the exact printer model number.

Alternatively, is the model in question mentioned as an AirPrint printer in About AirPrint - Apple Support?
