I can't use timemachine anymore. It starts normally then it stops after a few gigas...

Since I updated to Catalina, I cannot use Time Machine anymore. I used to make my back ups on synology external raid, and everything has always worked fine. But since the update, it starts creating the back-up but stops by itself. No error message. What can I do? Thanks

Does the NAS support the "Time Machine over SMB" specification? If not, it is not a supported backup disk you can use with Time Machine.

If it is using AFP, then it was never supported and that often fails due to the NAS using a reverse-engineered hack of AFP.

If I remember correctly, your NAS must be using Samba 4.8 or later for it to support Time Machine over SMB. If it uses some other SMB implementation, then you'd have to check with the NAS manufacturer about support for the Time Machine over SMB specification.
