I just got a subscription to MLB TV and it does not work on APPLE TV 4K (4th Generation). After launching and signing in, I try to view a live game and just get an empty black screen and no audio. I tried it on two different sets and Apple TV BOXES and neither works. It works on a ROKU Firestick. 😀
I figured out what my problem is. Once in the application if I click on a game it does not launch. The problem is my Apple HomePod speaker. If I switch it back to the TV speaker it works. Once I get the game to start then I can switch back to the HomePod again and it works fine.
The workaround doesn’t always work for me. Best of all, I switched to using MLB on my Roku and the Roku MLB app thought it was a different day. Whoever is doing the coding for MLB needs to be fired. The apps are a hot mess across multiple platforms.
You saved my sanity. Now though question. How did you switch back to homepods. I have tv 4K. With two original homepods paired. MLB app is only streaming service I have issues with. Since you can’t swipe down in mlb app I had to exit it to go to settings.

So they just updated the MLB Tv app and everything was fine. Now my issue is when I click on live stream of game it says unable to verify access. All my other apple devices work fine. Have tried restarting apple tv, deleting app and I reset apple tv and still get the same message unable to verify access. I can watch games that have finished or recap games but no live streaming. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I could be missing? Sucks!!!
Same issue, “ unable to verify access “ . I was hoping to find answers here. I’ve tried to restore purchase, re-installing the app & no luck so far. I reached out to MLB but they said I need to contact Apple support.
I’m having the same issue but am not using HomePods as speakers. I’m using a soundbar but when I switch to the TV speakers it makes no difference. One thing though - I used to have a Vizio television and now I have a Sony and the issue cropped up immediately after the change. I had no problem with the Vizio. I’m now using the MLB native app for my Sony without issues.

HomePod/AppleTV connection has been a nightmare, I should’ve guessed that was the reason! Makes no sense but thanks for figuring it out before Apple
In my experience the CarPlay Mlb app is trash but I find it’s easy to get the audio if you go into the app from the iPhone and start it there.

OMG! They finally fixed it. Homepods work in the new app. It has PIP too.
