Startup status bar choppy and then screen goes blank. Does not Boot

I rebooted my iMac to update to Big Sur 11.2.2 today and it did not boot back up. I unplugged and let it sit for a while and then rebooted it. The apple comes up and the status bar comes up but is not solid and choppy and gets about a 1/3 of the way and the screen goes black but stays powered on.

I cannot boot into safe or recovery to troubleshoot further.

iMac, OS X 10.11

This "sounds" like a hardware failure, if that is correct your best option is to take the computer to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider.

However please first review the troubleshooting steps in Startup Screens Troubleshooting Steps. If after exhausting the options in that link you still cannot get it to boot, then it's off to your local AASP you go.

If you need help finding one please click AASP Locator to get started finding one. Remember if your computer is considered vintage your local Apple Store will not work on it as parts may not be available, your best bet in that case is to take it to an independent AASP.
