Why Does Apple TV Show up in my Sound Preferences?

I don't have Apple TV as an app, not quite sure what it is, yet when I click on my volume icon in the toolbar, it shows the usual options, but also Apple TV, twice. I can't figure out why this is, and what if I clicked on either of them, where would my sound output be coming from? Why does Apple just add stuff, without informing us what it even is?

Thanks, but I don't really understand what you're telling me. The neighbors may be accepting incoming connections? So if I set my output to one of the Apple TVs shown, they'll hear what I'm playing, but I won't, since it'll be coming through their system?

I just hit each one of the Apple TVs currently showing up, and each just popped open a window saying "Could not connect to Apple TV". So, what does that mean? And if I can't connect to either one, why are they even showing up on my output list in sound preferences?
