Setting up my MacBook Pro, IBM and w3id?

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro, (2017). When I tired to set it up it asked for an IBM Id and password. I don’t know what that is or why it’s on my computer. It says that I need a w3id Id and password to continue setting up the computer, and that giving it that will allow the administrator to make changes to my computer. How do I get past this? Or erase it? I don’t want some company to control what I can and can’t do or see what I’m doing. And no password or ID came with the computer. I checked the serial number and it wasn’t stolen so how do I get this off, or shoul I just return it.

Welcome gid0117,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities, we're happy to have you with us. Based on your post, you've purchased a used MacBook Pro from 2017 and there seems to be managed users on the device. We'll do our best to assist with this.

The seller of the Mac did not follow all guidance outlined in: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac

We'd recommend trying to contact the seller for their login credentials and have them remove the Mac from the Find My app, if signed in.

How to remove Activation Lock

If you can't reach the seller, there isn't much you can do except try to return it where it was purchased. Should you have any troubles, you can also try Apple's new Activation Lock website: Turn off Activation Lock

Wishing you the best, take care!
