Music pauses briefly while switching apps

When I first got my iPad in 2017, I could play music in the iOS music app and swipe the screen to switch to another app, or press the home button/swipe the screen up to switch apps and the music would continue to play without any interruption. Then there was an iOS update. After that update, when you switch apps, music would stop playing for a brief period while the apps were being swapped before starting again.

And then there was another iOS update, or several, and the problem went away.

And then Apple released iOS 14.4 and the problem returned again - switching apps while music is playing is no longer seamless. It seems that Apple coders ARE able to get it right, but not consistently.

No... I'm using all the built in apps.

If I use the Built in Apple Music app to play music purchased on iTunes, and press the home button twice, it'll pause the music for a second while it shows the task switcher. If I'm playing music in the Apple Music app and slide right to get to the Opera browser, it'll pause music for a second while it switches to the browser. It's does it for non-Apple apps too.. say switching from Apple Music to Waze, or a calculator app, or, whatever.

Occasionally Apple releases a patch which fixes this annoying problem. But it's back in the most recent version.
