M1 mac mini email attachment issue

Hi,

I am experiencing issues with my mac mini M1 since latest upgrade. Is anyone having the same issues and/or found a solution?

I cannot attach files to emails within the Safari or Chrome browsers either using Outlook or Gmail.

I can drag a file and add it as an attachment just not when the pop up box appears and asks you to select a file. At this point I unable to select a file or cancel so I am stuck and have to close down either Safari or Chrome (force quit is not shown).

I am on a Mac Mini M1 / Big Sur 14.2.2.

I am associating issue with latest upgrade, but I could be wrong.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Geekboy009,

It sounds like when you try to attach something to your email in a web browser, you cannot select the file with Finder, but can drag and drop the file. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some assistance.

Since this is happening with two browsers, the common issue looks like it might be Finder. Do you get an error or alert? If so, let's follow the steps in If you see an error in Finder or iTunes on your computer. Step 3 titled, "Check your settings and your security software" might be a good step to look into because you're already up-to-date and you've tried restarting your computer.

If the issue remains after following those steps, let us know if you're getting an alert when this happens and if so, the wording and any information you may get when you click on "More Information" the alert occurs.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!

Hi Geekboy009,

You mentioned that after a restart the issue goes away. If you restart again, does the issue remain?

If the issue comes back again after following those steps, let us know if the same issue happens in safe mode by using Start up your Mac in safe mode. This can help us determine whether this is caused by other software that loads as your Mac starts up.

Best!

Hi,

The error has resurfaced and now affects my attaching of documents via the outlook app also as well as other programmes.

I cannot attach a file to an email in Safari / Chrome and Outlook App. In all applications I click on the attach a file, the pop up appears for me to select a file and at that point I am stuck.

Also, I have tried to take a screen recording via Quicktime and when the pop up appears to select a file to play I cannot move.

This is getting very frustrating. See attached vid which shows me trying to open up Quick Time and attaching a file to an email in Outlook via Safari.

So, in summary there is a bug that is stopping me selecting files in ANY pop up box that the appears in my OS. At first I thought it was just an email issue, it now appears to be in all programmes, affects QT, Keynote etc.

What is going on? My machine is a few months old.

Regards

Paul

Hi Chuck,

The issue has re-appeared. I have tried to put my mac mini into safe mode but it is not happening. I have followed instructions but I am holding down shift button and it boots to 'normal' screen, done this three times now??

The issue with file dialog is still here. It affects saving files, opening files, downloading files. The worst issue is when you create something new, say a keynote slide and when you come to save, the file dialog appears and I get stuck. I then have to force quit loosing all of the work created - painful.

I am getting desperate now, I want a replacement machine, how do i go about returning this faulty machine?

Regards,

Paul
