Hey thanks for getting back to me. I’ve done all these steps previously. Looks like a hardware fault. 😭. Which I don’t expect from Apple.
Did you try and remove a item or two from the Control strip..(?)
If find having SIRI does nothing but get in my way, so I removed it:
Customize the Touch Bar on MacBook Pro - Apple Support
You can make other changes to how the Touchbar presents itself as well—
>System Preferences>Keyboard
the only software fix on an Intel Mac (not applicable to the M1) would be:
resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Hi whitej10,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. It appears that a portion of the Siri icon is missing on your Touch Bar. Make sure your Mac is running the latest macOS version: How to update the software on your Mac
If it's already on the latest macOS version, or if updating doesn't help, start your Mac in safe mode with these steps: How to use safe mode on your Mac
There are some additional troubleshooting steps that can be taken in that article depending on whether the issue occurs while in safe mode or not.
Reply if more help is needed.
Cheers!

Perfectly valid Siri randomly turns up when I least expect him!
The point is yes I could move icons around which is great until I need to use the F12 key
just not for this issue. Great shout about the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM
?
The salient point was to remove items to make the TouchBar less crowded/ Control strip less crowded I am unclear by your side ways screenshot which this is actually.
Make changes.
"just not for this issue. Great shout about the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM"
SMC & NVRAM both control the T2 chip which is responsible for the Touchbar— do not ignore this.
If you send it in for a hardware issue— you can expect no less then 10 day turn around time. If it were me I would do everything to avoid this annoyance, especially if it proves to be a software issue.
good luck

The point is yes I could move icons around which is great until I need to use the F12 key and while there’s always a work around there shouldn’t have to be a way to make it work it should just work. If I wanted to hodge podge stuff I’d have bought a PC. 😂
Good Tips though just not for this issue. Great shout about the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM If others find this issue that may help them.
thanks
