Help Please

I need help. I updated to Catalina and now I can't open Word. It wants me to sign in with my email but when I enter my login information it says it's invalid. Help. I have a work deadline and now I can't access my word documents.

Have a Backup of this Mac?:

Did you create a Time Machine backup of your Mac prior to this upgrade. If so,  restore your Mac from it. If not, take this as a learning experience, knowing to always backup your Mac, prior to making any changed to your Mac (i.e. software insertions and macOS upgrades), that way you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the change.

If not...

Backup, then Downgrade:

You would delete the macOS, and install what was there. Prior to the deletion, you'd create a USB Bootable Installer of the macOS previously installed. Moreover, create a backup of the current macOS Catalina install, and then use Migration Assistant to transfer it over to the new install of the prior macOS Install.

Depending on what you upgraded from (you did not say), this could be because your version of Word is an older 32 bit version. Are you using Office 2011, that's a 32-bit version. Office 2016 for Mac needs to be v15.35 or later, so you would need to update to that if you are on Office 2016.

Hard to tell from what you posted, but were you using a subscription version of Office or Word? Can't diagnose this without more info.

In the meantime, you can use Pages, the Apple word processor that comes with the MacOS, it is in your Applications folder. It can open Word documents and save in Word file format. Also, LibreOffice (free download) can open and save files in Word format.
