I have tried several different methods to install a new Mac OS X El Capitan onto a blank hard drive which is 1 of 4 hard drives installed in my Mac Pro and each one has ended in the same result. Please help!

Also at the top of window where yours says Volumes -zsh 80x24 mine says my username -bash 80x24
I am sorry the previous was not in recovery mode the following is:

-bash: /Volumes: is a directory
-bash-3.2#
And at the top Terminal -bash 80x24
So let me see if I have this correct.
1 I reboot in RM and install from there?
2.And then when that install doesn't work I Erase the hard drive while still in RM?
3 then I try to reinstall again while in RM?
I tried that all day today with a blank DVD but I could never get the terminal to recognize the name
What does other volume that you're using for the bootable installer mean?

How do I boot into the hard drive that I want to install if it is not bootable?
I only have 1 startup disk listed. In disk utility if I click on the "I" icon it says that only the startup disk is bootable. How can I get them to be bootable?
I followed step by step and still got the same message.
any other suggestions?
A&B: According to Apple 10.11.6 is the highest I can go because of my 2008 Mac Pro.
C. Tell me how, but they are both newer model laptops.
