Do I need a 4K HDTV to upgrade from Apple TV 3rd gerneration to Apple TV

CBS All Access now Paramount TV requires AppleTV4 for access through my TV. My TV is only an HDTV not a 4K HDR TV. I can stream directly from my MacBook Pro via AirPlay now but kind of a pain. I would upgrade my Apple TV 3rd generation to the AppleTV4 ...... however I am not certain if this would work with my Sony Bravia HDTV . Cannot afford a new TV.

Will AppleTV4 work and the Apple TV app display the Paramount TV Channel ok but just not give me the higher grade picture and other options. I just want to watch my local news!!!!
