TextEdit - Crashes / Hang Event while using BigSir

Another HORRIBLE experience with a new MacBook Pro running Big Sur. One of the most basic apps on your MacBook and it's crashing. This is the same type of program like Notepad on a PC. Steve Jobs rolling in his grave. This is getting to be pathetic!!!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 11.2

There is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This user tip describes what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community

That being said uninstall Avira Security according to the developer's instructions.

Regarding Safe Mode: does TextEdit to crash whenever you use it or is it random? If you can make TextEdit to crash easily then try doing so in Safe Mode. Then reboot normally and try again. This is what Safe Mode does:

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Also log into another vanilla admin user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and see if the problem persists. (This tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide).

Appreciate the frustrations experienced but until the Safe Mode is tried - not too much more can be offered. The idea of trying was to determine if there is some Third Party Software installed that is interfering with there Normal Operation of the OS and contributing to TextEdit crash. Safe Mode will do a Repair Disk, Clear cache files and Only Load Apple Software and Fonts. Loads slowly - normal and Test

Will work with ya and try to dig deeper. What I was just able to replicated.

I restored from sleep.

I had it in DND mode - also having some random issues with that. Seems others know about that.

I went to the text edit document and used my magic pad to pinch zoom open...

CRASH.

Just Force Quit the app and pasted my huge crash log... by restarting text edit, create new note, pasted the large copy... THEN went to pinch zoom (make text larger) and same issue. CRASH

(still in DND mode).

Turned off DND mode... then reopened text edit. Last document it opened was the crash log. Pinch zoom.

CRASH.

I will attempt to replicate in safe mode, but just to share, I've had that stupid antivirus app on there in the prior OS (on older MacBook) along with the same apps. Came from system admin. This issue never happened until Big Sur which is a big pain to me. Sorry, Mac faithful over here but this stuff is ridiculous. Also posted about my DND issue too - while I don't think it's related, it's worth noting.

Sorry to be bitter, but we're talking about the most simplest of apps - a text editor!!!
