Mac Mini M1 Consistent USB-C Display Issues

It’s a defect in the design of the Dell Monitor. Specifically, it’s the Dell’s 90 W power-capable USB C port that’s acting up. It’s why your logic board failed in the first instance (Apple has since fixed this issue by no longer allowing externals to mess with their internals).

Return your monitor ASAP for a full refund. If Dell won’t do that, ask them to replace it, then avoid it’s USB C port at all costs. Good luck!

I might add that my 2 dell models are U3219Q. My HDMI port also results in the monitor intermittently going black for a second and my USB 'unexpectedly' ejected on reboot of the computer as well as my USB-C portted DELL not resulting in a signal on bootup I have to replug it in and no problems. Although Dell not being the best quality and i feel there is absolute merit in what you say, I also feel that it seems that the logic board and power bus seems to have issues through its all its USB-C, USB, and HDMI ports.

It works fine with the MacBooks because (a) they ain’t M1 and (b) the books love external power from outside sources. No need to read more, this isn’t rocket science: Dell’s made a power-spraying lemon of a monitor, have no way out other than to discontinue it, which they will eventually. But you don’t care about all that. Box it and ask Dell to pick it up ASAP.

If you have had the M1 for less than 14 days, you can return it no questions asked. If you’ve had it longer, call Apple Support explain the problem(s) and see if they will replace or offer a refund.

I’ve had this issue. I have a replacement I just set up today. I can have only 1 usb c port working at a time it seems. It’s a joke I’m so angry at the price I paid. I get told it’s a usb c faulty port. It’s not it’s a software issue

I have issues with Mini M1 USB-C connection too, even with updated Big Sur (11.4). I use USB-C to USB-C to a 49in Dell monitor. I connect my keyboard/mouse to the monitor. After rebooting M1, the monitor will not wake up, key/mouse also not working, it looks like there is no USB-c signal to monitor. I have to unplug replug usb-c to wake up monitor, then things will work fine until M1 goes to sleep. When trying to wake from sleep, I have the same problem to wake up monitor, even I know the M1 is awake. (because later on I can see some progress in activities). Occasionally when monitor is awake but my KB/mouse hooked to the monitor will not work. I have to connect KB/mouse to M1 directly. This is maddening!!!! I don't want to return the M1 because this is a "Toy" computer for me. I read a lot of similar issues in the net. Apple, please fix this!!! This is not a production machine, not in-line with Apple's reputation! Otherwise the M1mini is a great piece of computer.

It's the monitor that's struggling...but I'll agree with you on one thing, Apple bashing is a lot more fun! Dell, duh. Good luck anyways.
