Apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting (2021)

Wireless CarPlay on my 2021 Hyundai i30 keeps disconnecting at random intervals. In addition to that, it also disconnects at one specific location during my morning commute to work without fail every morning. To me they seem like two different issues, even though they share the same outcome.

The audio unit issuer for Hyundai, Seednav, has already released an update regarding this concern and I have installed it in my car. Unfortunately the issue still remains the same. Recent communications with Seednav have resulted in the blame being pointed towards apple. Is there a fix in the making for this issue?

Update,

Last night, on the way home from work, I let the CarPlay fail in the disruption area. When I got home, I tested how long it would take to allow a reconnect. While looking at the WIFI settings on the phone and seeing the connection to the car's WIFI, I shut off the car, removed the key, opened the door, shut the door (staying in) and locked the car. The WIFI connection stayed active for about 2 minutes before disappearing from the phone. I then unlocked the car, opened the door and closed the door. Upon closing the door, the car plays it's little jingle and within 15 seconds, the WIFI to the car was connected. This was before inserting the key. At this point CarPlay was functioning properly. So, the car has to be off for at least 2 minutes for the WIFI to shut down and clear itself.

The way I have been getting around the issue is disconnecting the phone in the projection settings before hitting the affected area and reconnecting when I am past the area. At least I have a clear collection of info when I go to the dealer.

I just pick my Toyota Yaris 2021. I have iPhone 12 with iOS 15.2 updates. I also experienced same problem when I plugged in USB cable to my car, the CarPlay can enable to use. I start google map for navigation and then play music. After few minutes, CarPlay it suddenly quit and return to Toyota system. I tried many times and got same result.

Ok, I have been tracking this forum and following this since we purchased a 2022 Hyundai Palisades with Wireless Carplay. At the time of purchase, I was using AT&T with an iPhone XR. We experienced all of the connectivity and "dropping" problems documented here. It was very frustrating as the wireless option was one of the benefits of buying a new vehicle.

Since then, I have upgraded my device to an iPhone 13 (5G) and more importantly, I switched to T-Mobile who - in my area - has stronger 5G coverage. After the switch, we have experienced ZERO drops with Apple Car Play. I went from constant drops... to ZERO drops. You can read that as you want, but this points to the problem being related to SIGNAL speed/strength from the wireless network to your device.

What I don't understand is why the device, which is locally connected to the car via bluetooth and local wifi drops screen projection when the signal to the device is poor (network). It shouldn't matter. Yes, the streaming content should pause (Streaming audio for Example) but the connection from the device to the car shouldn't be impacted by this.

I am not an engineer, so I don't have a fix. I can only explain my experience. This issue hasn't come up for me in 2 months. After I swapped carriers and moved to 5G, it just worked. Even when I don't have 5G coverage - which happens for sure as 5G coverage doesn't blanket my area yet.

So, look harder at your devices and your carriers. As mentioned above I still don't understand why signal strength impacts the connection to the car... but it seems to...

Hello everyone, first time in apple community.

I´m from Argentina.

Recently i have installed an outside market unit on my car. It´s a Pioneer that supports wireless apple car play and android auto.

I´m having the same issues you guys are talking about, and i have found that the problem is when you pass near cell phone antenas.

Every time I run thru them, same places, the problem happens. No matter the speed.

Since its not a problem from my unit or the manufacter of the stereo, apple must have a response to this situation.

Anyone has found a solution to this?

Thanks!

THE FIX (for me)

I too WAS (and I emphasize “was”) having the disconnection issue as well. I have a 2018 KIA Cadenza (no laughing anyone!) which is actually the one of the most underrated cars out there! Regardless, I have an iPhone Pro Max… with wire connectivity. It would drop moments after connecting, causing frustration while driving (dangerous obviously).

Someone on this thread suggested a fix; I tried it and the result was “instant success”! Thanks to that contributor.

What was previously “okay” to use suddenly wasn’t. Using a GENUINE Apple wire connecting to the car’s USB port solved the issue for me. It has never dropped since.

I hope it works for you.

Thanks again

I keep update the iOS from 15 -> 15.3.1, the Apple CarPlay keep often disconnected. I have iPhone 12 and my car is Toyota Yaris in Thailand. When connected my iPhone to CarPlay system playing with music in few minutes, Apple CarPlay suddenly crash and back to Toyota CarPlay audio system. I have experience using Google map and music or any combinations of other operations, it crash after few minutes. It is very annoying and not acceptable. I tried another Android phone in same car, it work very smooth and no crashing happen. I strongly request Apple developers to fix this issue. I guess the app memory handling or between Bluetooth and wire communication with errors.

Add me to the growing list of people with wireless CarPlay connectivity problems. I have a 2022 Hyundai Tucson and since day 1, there is about a 50/50 chance of it connecting properly. When it doesn't, I either get it working again through a combination of restarting my iPhone 12, or the car. Its never predictable, which is why I can't say restarting the car or iPhone is always going to work, and I have to often try both. A typical scenario: start the car in the garage, iPhone connects beautifully through wireless CarPlay, drive to the store and go in, returned the car just a few minutes later, start the car, will not connect. Location doesn't matter. Nothing is consistent about the problem, which is what makes it so maddening. Rinse and repeat.

I have the same issue with a 2021 Santa Fe. Have had numerous calls with Apple to no avail. They feel it is likely a problem with Hyundai. Local dealer said it was a likely happening in a dead zone but a wired connection with android works . It would appear the router in the car should be improved to stop interference. Unfortunately the vehicle on supports a wireless connection for CarPlay and a wired connection for android

would appear the only solution is to buy an android phone
