Watch accuracy with MapmyRun

I have a series 3 watch and use it on runs/walks. I also carry my iPhone 7 with me.

Periodically there is a discrepancy between the distance on my watch and what I know the milage to be. Usually it happens on the first mile which throws every other mile off.

Looking for answers on why this happens and is there anything that I can do to fix it? I thought that it might be the result of outside electrical/magnetic interference but really don't know.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi tomjh3,

It appears you're occasionally receiving inaccurate results from MapMyRun on your Apple Watch.

While this may be something we'd recommend reaching out to MapMyFitness regarding, there are some settings you can check on your Apple Watch.

First, while the issue is inconsistent, do you notice anything that seems to trigger the issue? Such as a specific route run or a specific time of day or weather condition, etc?

Additionally, if you haven't already we'd recommend double checking the fit on your Apple Watch, and also calibrating it to ensure it is giving you the most accurate results possible.

Additionally MapMyFitness has some tips they recommend regarding inaccurate distances in the following article:

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, we'd recommend reaching out to MapMyFitness for additional info.

Cheers!
