Location glitch or hacked?

Hey! I had a weird location glitch on my iPhone, for a second I was seeing weather in Orientale, Congo, although I'm nowhere near that place and then it switched back to my location. Is this just a glitch or I might be hacked? I've also received some calls from there few months ago but did not pick up.

iPhone 7, iOS 13

  • Suspicious Call Location?:

If you are using Security Software, then a VPN would likely be being used. So, that would show where you are located.

  • A Hacked Phone?:

No one is hacking your iPhone, unless it is jail broken.

  • Phishing Scam Calls:

As for these phone calls they may be phishing scams, with the location perhaps by coincidence.

Modify Your Credentials:

If you installed anything or interacted in the site in any manor, then most certainly consider making some changes. Do so for a phone that you purchased that is used. You might want to consider getting a new iPhone, if you are getting these phone calls once more.

What to Modify:

Note: If you did not interact with the site in any manor, then no worries - you are fine.

Where to Go from here:

Three More Thoughts:

A. Restore from a Backup:

Have a back up of your iPhone prior to all of this? If so, restore your iPhone from the backup. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to alway backup your iPhone every often, particularly prior to installing updates. Doing so, you will have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go work father the major change (update)

B. Report this as a Bug to Apple:

Do your Part: It may be a glitch(bug). If such is the case, report it to Apple. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what may been to be fixed.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: on when you came across this error, and how you have troubleshot it thus far.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

C. Reporting as a Scam:

These calls you speak of are indeed no more than a scam. So, report these to Apple and the Government (if an option):

  • To Apple: Using the Photos App - take a screenshot of that phone number and send it off to Apple. Click the encircled "i" next to the number, and send a screenshot of that window to them.

1. Go Here: Take a Screenshot on your iPhone - Apple Support

2. Forward the screenshot to: reportphishing@apple.com

3. Include a brief description of what this eMail is all about: Screenshots containing scam call info

  • To the U.S.A. Government:

(In the U.S. Only): Report Phishing Scams' Info at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
